Animated intellectual property can create value far beyond the box office of a single film.

Recognisable characters can move between sequels, merchandise, games, attractions and promotional partnerships with relatively little explanation. That makes visual familiarity an unusually scalable commercial asset.

The challenge is preserving distinctiveness while expanding the number of places the property appears. Overextension can weaken the thing that made the characters valuable in the first place.

The Real: the most durable animated franchises behave like asset platforms. Individual films matter, but the underlying character system can become the more valuable long-term property.
